AAAC conductor is made from
Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon alloy of high electrical conductivity
containing calculated amount of Magnesium Silicate to give it
better mechanical properties after treatment/drawing and
thereafter stranded from 7 strands to 61 strands. These
conductors are generally used for bare overhead primary and
secondary transmission. It has a better corrosion resistance and
better strength to weight ratio and improved electrical
conductivity .Due to its excellent corrosion resistance quality;
it is preferably installed on the seacoast and other areas,
which are severely impacted by corrosion problems.
This conductor has solid or stranded high carbon, high tensile
steel core in centre surrounded by strands of aluminum (E.C.
GRADE) wires. ACSR CONDUCTOR is available in a wide range of
steel having carbon upto .60%. The proportions of aluminum and
steel can be varied to obtain the relation between
current-carrying capacity and mechanical strength best suited to
each application, generally Aluminium content is 68% and steel
content is 32%. ACSR conductor is used as bare overhead
conductor for primary and secondary distribution. Designed
utilizing a high tensile steel to achieve a high
strength-to-weight ratio. The higher strength conductors are
used for primary transmission viz generation stations to power
houses, city to city, river crossings and installations
involving extra long spans etc. Against any given resistance of
conductor, it may be manufactured for having a wide range of
tensile strength as per requirement. The principal advantage of
these conductors are high tensile strength and light weight with
longer spans as well as with lesser supports. Higher corona
limit can be obtained due to greater diameter which is
advantages on high as well as extra high voltage overhead
lines.
